Artist Fun Fact: Bushy Tail is an oversized gray squirrel. He’s taking a break from his hunt for a nut - resting on a fire hydrant.
The Legend of Bushy Tail
Long ago, in a town where creativity grew wild among the rust and rivets, a sculptor gathered the forgotten fragments of the world— broken tools, twisted bolts, and the hollow shells of machines that once hummed with life. From this mountain of discarded metal, the sculptor dreamed up a creature of energy and mischief: a squirrel so grand and gleaming that it seemed ready to leap into motion. Thus was born Bushy Tail.
No ordinary sculpture, the townsfolk whispered that when the moonlight struck his busy tail just right, he would stir, stretching his legs and scampering off into the night –
in search of the greatest treasure known to squirrels—nuts. But not just any nuts. Bushy Tail sought the rarest kind: the golden acorns of imagination, said to grow only in the hearts of those who create from what others throw away.
For many nights, he bounded across scrapyards and alleys, his paws clinking softly on the pavement, his tail shimmering with the reflections of streetlights. He rummaged through piles of forgotten things, collecting bits of wonder—an old key here, a rusted gear there—each one a token of his endless curiosity. The townspeople would wake to find small piles of polished metal arranged like nests, as if Bushy Tail had been building something new while they slept.
One evening, after a particularly long chase through the industrial district, Bushy Tail grew weary. His joints creaked and his once-bright eyes dimmed to a soft bronze glow. Searching for a place to rest, he spotted a red fire hydrant standing proudly at the corner of a quiet street. Its color reminded him of autumn leaves and the warmth of home. With a sigh that sounded like the settling of old hinges, Bushy Tail wrapped his metal paws around the hydrant for a long rest.
There he remains to this day—frozen mid-breath, his gaze fixed on the horizon as if planning his next great nut-hunting adventure. Children who pass by swear they can hear the faint rattle of bolts when the wind blows, and some claim that if one leaves a shiny coin or a small screw at his feet, Bushy Tail will bring good luck and inspiration for new creations.
The legend says that one day, when the world needs a reminder of the beauty hidden in the broken, Bushy Tail will awaken again. He will stretch his steel limbs, flick his wirey tail, and set off once more to gather the golden acorns of imagination—proving that even from scraps and rust, wonder can be born anew.
